10GE Transport and Aggregation
The Calix E5-400 delivers scalable, high-bandwidth FTTP Ethernet services from a small-form-factor footprint. The 1RU E5-400 is fully hardened for maximum deployment flexibility, and supports major new standards-based technologies such as 10GE (XFP and SFP+), NxGE, and GE transport (Ethernet Ring Protection Switching / Enhanced EAPS) and aggregation (RSTP / LAG), as well as point-to-point Ethernet or high-capacity Active Ethernet (AE) business services (MEF 9 and 14).
Business Active Ethernet (TLS / MEF Certified)
For Calix, carrier grade is defined as the ability to deliver telephony-grade reliability across a standards-based, protected network infrastructure specifically designed to meet the demanding jitter, latency and timing requirements of next-generation IP services. Recognizing the criticality of high capacity business Active Ethernet services, the E5-400 has been designed to support transparent LAN services (TLS) and is certified by the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF), thus ensuring easy deployment and high reliability.
Maximize FTTP Deployment Flexibility
The E5-400 is the ideal solution for a wide variety of deployment scenarios:
- The 1 RU small form factor maximizes deployment options. The environmentally hardened E5-400 can be deployed across the entire access network – from the central office to outdoor cabinets – to deliver residential voice, video, and data services throughout a high-capacity Ethernet network.
- The E5-400 delivers new layers of protection to ensure network flexibility and redundancy. These include ITU G.8032-aligned Ethernet Ring Protection Switching (ERPS) / Enhanced EAPS; IEEE 802.1w rapid spanning-tree (RSTP); and IEEE 802.3ad link aggregation (LAG). ERPS creates a fault-tolerant network topology; RSTP maximizes redundant link flexibility; link aggregation streamlines bandwidth expansion.
- Like all Calix products, the E5-400 is managed by the Calix Management System (CMS). Deploying the E5-400 in combination with other C-Series, B-Series, E-Series and P-Series devices, service providers enjoy the operational efficiencies of using a single management platform in conjunction with the industry's most comprehensive set of access solutions – in short, the benefits of the Calix Unified Access Infrastructure, which provides one network view and one subscriber experience, regardless of media type, protocol or service – and thereby ensures maximized operational and capital efficiency.
